Photoshoot Fresh-Basquiat & Kicks Week

This week I wanted to spotlight a great influence of mine, Jean-Michel Basquiat. I can’t remember the exact year that I saw him on MTV with Fab 5 Freddy during a brief interview but I was hooked to want to know more about him! I remember these short breaks that they would air on art and found this clip. This was years before Yo! MTV Raps would enter must-see tv for me as kid growing up outside of NYC.

As a kid, he may have been one of the first public figures I wanted to know more about (online was so many decades away). I was already a regular at the library for checking out books but learning the nuisance of researching anything at the library was my next big adventure! That is when the quest to know and understand more about this talented and complex man started.
