Trainer Talk Thursday: Women in Sneaker Culture- Lettaytellit

I wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the amazing women in sneaker culture that I have been able to connect with on Instagram. I started recently following Lettaytellit aka Taylor, the first post I think was her showcasing her Bio-Hacks and custom brown socks to match, it was an instant connection for me with on feet angles and selections! I definitely love her posts where she speaks her mind about sneaker issues that arise and her merchandise and collection showcase her style, energy & personality! Here’s a Q&A to get to know her better!

What was the 1st pair of kicks that sparked your interest in sneakers?

When I got my first pair of sneakers in middle school, a pair of all-white Air Force 1s

How do sneakers fit into your life and aesthetic? Is it part of your career, weekend looks, etc?

I wear sneakers every day! I work from home and I’m a mom so sneakers just always work for me

What are your top 5 kicks and how has that changed over the years?

5 is hard to choose but here are 5 of my favs

Banned 1s

Space Jam11s

Fila Ray Tracers

Cardinal 7s

Bordeaux 7

Do you have a favorite athlete or person for inspiration for looks?

Inspiration would be Melody Eshani and Nerd Like Jazzy on IG just because of the doors they have opened for women like me in the sneaker community

What are some grails that you are on a quest for still?

Just to name a few:

Jordan 1 High “Banned” and Shattered Backboards

Aleali May Jordan 6

The blue and white blazers worn in the Like Mike video.

What are issues or things you dislike about women and sneaker culture? How would You change those things?

I dislike the lack of respect

I dislike the lack of respect for Jordan 1 mids

I dislike men still acting like this is a boys-only club when it comes to sneakers

I dislike the lack of women being represented ESPECIALLY the lack of black women

I want the hashtags I’ve created to be used by these brands, they should be paying attention and more women should be getting more exposure

I want people to simply wear what they like and allow other people to do the same. There is nothing wrong with Jordan 1 mids!

I want men to know that women are here to stay when it comes to being apart of sneaker culture, we are knowledgeable and we have heat, sometimes better heat than the guys!

What do you see as the future of sneaker culture?

The future of sneaker culture, I would like to see more unity in the sneaker culture in the future more brands allowing women to have a seat at the table more brands taking women seriously, and more brands having more respect for sneaker culture

Talk about how you decided to start your custom socks shop and what that entailed to begin the webpage/orders etc?

I wanted to sell different socks and not just the tie-dye ones you see everyone doing. I like to stand out and I also like to match my socks to my shoes any chance I get! My boyfriend is the one who got me into that, he lovessssss socks!

Talk about creating the hashtags for respect black/females sneakerheads as well as the new merch and the feedback/attention it has garnered.

I created the hashtags #respectfemalesneakerheads and #respectblackfemalesneakerheads because there are two separate issues women in sneakers don’t get enough respect and black women in sneakers are even more overlooked than anyone else it’s important to bring attention to the issue and let people know women are going to be silent about the unfair treatment we want respect so give it to us.

What’s next for you and your brand this year?

The feedback has been amazing and the support from men and women is truly amazing to see!

Anything you want to plug for upcoming things?
