Trainer Talk Thursday: Women in Sneaker Culture -Ebknowsitall
I wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the amazing women in sneaker culture that I have been able to connect with online. I started following Ebony first via a Facebook group Bossfluence, sharing tips on blogging, influencer marketing, and everything in between, and now via Instagram as well! I enjoy her TL and her personality shines through her collection! She’s been very supportive, always sharing some amazing info and fun to chat with! Here’s a Q&A to get to know her better!
What was the 1st pair of kicks that sparked your interest in sneakers?
The Penny's. When I was in High School I was in love with Anfernee and I begged my dad to buy me the Nike Air Penny #1s. I had to get straight A's, but that was a piece of cake. I ended up getting him to buy me the Nike Air Penny #2s as well.
How does sneakers fit into your life and aesthetic? Is it part of your career, weekend looks, etc?
I work from home so I don't really wear shoes most of the day. That keeps my sneakers in tip-top shape because I hardly wear them now. Prior to quarantine, I would bust them out for special occasions or weekend wear. Now I pretty much wear them for my Instagram.
What are your top 5 kicks and how has that changed over the years?
1.) Jordan 13s blue flint greys. When I was younger I could never find them, they would sell out so quickly. In 2010 or 2011 I was able to buy all 3 of my sons a pair and my boyfriend at the time (now my husband) took me to another city to get me a pair. It was that serious. I still have them and I have worn the hell out of them. My all-time favorite Jordan's.
2.) Nike Air Max 97s-I love these shoes because they glow in pictures. The also have an intricate look.. This is another pair I searched high and low for, specifically the all red. I actually stumbled on them when I wasn't looking for them and I could NOT leave without them.
3.) Jordan 1s are old faithful. You just can't go wrong with any of the colorways.
4.) Jordan Concords are a recent addition, courtesy of my hubs. They mostly chill in the box but they are so hard. They are not the most comfortable but I still love them.
5.) Reebok Questions- I have a very unique colorway. My husband bought them because my favorite color is teal and they are grey, pink, and teal. I bust them out when needed but I save them for special occasions mostly.
Do you have a favorite athlete or person for inspiration for looks?
I love the influencers Melissa Chanel and Helecia aka Iknowlee, they always come through with the sneakher style.
What are some grails that you are on a quest for still?
I need the cool grey Jordan 4s and I always wanted some tailwinds, they used to have this colorway with a blue gradient. I haven't seen them in years.
What issues or things do you dislike about women and sneaker culture? How would You change those things?
I feel like women wearing sneakers is much more acceptable now. The fact that I have to say that sentence is the problem. It shouldn't have to be a big deal for us, allow us to wear whatever we want. We push change just by being the change we want to see. That for me is embracing other women wearing sneakers and of course not hesitating to rock mine.
What do you see as the future of sneaker culture and where do you see yourself fitting into that?
I think the future of sneaker culture is bright, especially since more and more women are embracing them. Women always make things better. As far as myself I'm not a sneakerhead, but I am a woman that loves sneakers. My hubs is more of the sneakerhead so I'm sure he will keep me in the game.
Any final things you may want to add or plug?
Women keep rocking your sneakers WHENEVER you want to. We love to see how you style your sneakers with whatever feels right, dresses included.
You can follow me on Instagram at @ebknowsitall every Friday I rock a pair of my sneakers on what I have deemed as #flykickfriday. You can check out how I style them.
