Trainer Talk Thursday: Women in Sneaker Culture- Left Hand Glam

I wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the amazing women in sneaker culture that I have been able to connect with on Instagram. I started recently following Left Hand Glam, the first post was her birthday pic showcasing the Jordan 1 Lightbulbs and it was an instant connection for me with her amazing style! I enjoy her feed and her personality shines through her collection, more can be seen on her blog and she’s been very supportive and fun to chat with! Here’s a Q&A to get to know her better!

What was the 1st pair of kicks that sparked your interest in sneakers?

It started back in 2002 when I was in high school I used my Christmas money to buy my first pair of Nike dunk lows CO JP. That was the spark that set everything off!

How do sneakers fit into your life and aesthetic? Is it part of your career, weekend looks, etc?

They are definitely apart of me!! I wear them everywhere I go to work, church, the grocery store you name it!! Monday through Sunday!!

What are your top 5 kicks and how has that changed over the years?

  1. Nike Dunk Low Viotech- they were originally on my list of grails until I copped GS version in 2015 and I also have the 2019 pair. They just speak to my sneaker sole*no typo lol!!

  2. Jordan 1s Black Toe - It’s an OG colorway you gotta love it!!!!

  3. OG Women’s Jordan White/Black- They are the three C’s crisp, clean, and comfy.

  4. Retro 3 Black Cement - Originally I retired from sneaker collecting in 2010. But  I would sneak out of retirement here and there to grab kicks that were important to me. After I copped the 3s in 2018 it triggered my inner sneakerhead and I could no longer fight the urge I was back to collecting kicks!

  5. Jordan 6s Aleali May- I still can’t believe I  manage to cop these on SNKRS. Aleali May always brings the heat with her Jordan collabs.

Do you have a favorite athlete or person for inspiration for looks?

Tracee Ellis Ross and Teyana Taylor their sense of fashion is everything! I love how they style their kicks. The looks they create are always effortlessly fly.

What are some grails that you're on a quest for still? I’m on a quest in my dreams lol!! My grails are not in my price range. But maybe one day I will be able to obtain at least one of them. My grails are:

      1. Jordan 1 Retro “Chicago”

      2. Air Force One “Linen”

      3. Air Max 90 DQM Bacon.

      4. Jordan 1 Mid Melody Eshani

What are the issues or things you dislike about women and sneaker culture? How would You change those things?

I really wish women’s Jordan 1 releases weren’t so limited. I have to jump through so many hoops just to attempt to buy the shoe and still catch an L! When a general release would make things so much easier!

What do You see as the future of sneaker culture and where do you see yourself fitting into that?

I see women gaining more respect in sneaker culture. I also envision more women especially women of color getting the opportunities to collab with sneaker brands. Hopefully, in the future I will be one of those women.

Any final things you may want to add or plug
