Trainer Talk Thursday: Women in Sneaker Culture- Brown_Sugah86
I wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the amazing women in sneaker culture that I have been able to connect with on Instagram. I started following Mercedes, Brown_Sugah86 recently, the first post was showcasing the Nike Orange Duck Camos, which just dropped and at the time I was just lusting over before I was able to finally pick up! I enjoy her feed and her personality shines through her collection! Here’s a Q&A to get to know her better!
What was the 1st pair of kicks that sparked your interest in sneakers?
My first pair of Kicks which sparked was the Air Force 1 low.
How do sneakers fit into your life and aesthetic? Is it part of your career, weekend looks, etc?
Actually, I started wearing Sneakers when I worked at Snipes. Even when I went out for the night and after a long time of wearing heels, I switch to my comfortable Kicks 😌. Thank God, I can also wear them at the office.
What are your top 5 kicks and how has that changed over the years?
My Top 5 Kicks are Air Jordan 1 High OG, Air Jordan 4, Air Jordan 11, Air Max 90, Air Max 1. Actually, I guess over the years Nike and Jordan Brand became more interesting for me. I also got some pairs of Adidas, Puma, Asics, and even Lacoste 😅
Do you have a favorite athlete or person for inspiration for looks?
Hmmm, not really.
What are some grails that you are on a quest for still?
Ohhh they are a few BUT my all-time grails are Air Max 1 "Cherrywood" and Air Jordan 1 x LA Union 'Blacktoe”
What are the issues or things you dislike about women and sneaker culture? How would You change those things?
It's a pity that female Sneakerheads aren’t getting THAT much attention like the male colleagues. I don't know if they'll be a change but I'm still hoping for it!
What do you see as the future of sneaker culture and where do you see yourself fitting into that?
That's a very good question because unfortunately, the Sneaker culture changed a lot but unfortunately not in a good way concerning Resellers. Unfortunately, one has any chance to get a pair without those resellers using bots or asking 10 friends to buy a couple of pairs just for their profit. And another point is that Sneaker drops are mostly done via Raffles. I miss the time when you had the possibility to buy them in-store without any problems or staying in a long lane...
