In 2019, there was a great resurgence of indie films, majority from A24 or Neon, which can be an exciting way to take risks with visual methods and script/storytelling while showcasing new voices, talented new actors and garnering new audiences in the process! Connection of places or people was a huge thread running through a lot of the stories and scripts. Despite what the Globes and Oscars deemed award-worthy, these films captivated me and many others.
Note: I haven’t seen The Farewell or Waves as yet so they were missing from this list.
